Celebrating 70 years of protecting the world: combating influenza now and in the future

Celebrating 70 years of protecting the world: combating influenza now and in the future

In 1952, the WHO’s Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS) was established with only 25 countries reporting their influenza surveillance data to WHO. Now, more than 127 countries, areas and territories contribute to the GISRS network and it is set to expand its scope to be inclusive of other respiratory viruses in the future.

To mark its 70th anniversary, GISRS has partnered with the Global Health Matters podcast to produce its latest episode. Podcast host, Garry Aslanyan, speaks to John McCauley and Mahmudur Rahman to learn more about how scientists around the world have been collaborating for 70 years to protect us from influenza and what the future holds for the GISRS network.

Listen on all major streaming platforms like Apple, Spotify and Amazon Music, as well as on YouTube with French and Spanish subtitles.
