President Joe Biden became the first American president to appoint an American Indian a secretary in the executive arm of the USA government.
The former member of Congress from the New Mexico Indian American community and current head of the department of the Interior helped with the organization of the meeting.
President Biden in his speech to the gathered participants talked about the work of late senator Ken Inouye from Hawaii for Indian Americans and the building of the Indian American Smithsonian Museum at the mall of Washington close to the USA Capitol.
The History of American Indians is full and rich with challenges of immigrants from Europe and their fights for their American lands from immigrants.
Their populations was greatly reduced by diseases that immigrants brought with them from Europe 'which the American Indians had no herd immunity against.
Many of their traditions and lands were taken away from them ' while they were resettled at reservations .
Some Indian communities continue to fight against pollution of their lands by petroleum and gas producers companies .
The Indian Affairs work by the federal government requires much resources and president Joe Biden has promised to work with the leaders in that community to address the American Indian issues .
