HPD Chicano "Squard 1" honored at city hall during it,s 40th anniversary .

Houston city council honored Houston Police department [HPD] Chicano Squad  during the Tuesday , 8/20/22019 special meeting .
 Each of the five of the sis original members had a proclamation honoring the them during the 40th anniversary of the Squad .
   The special presentation was initiated by district 1 council man Robert Gallegos .
   Speakers at the event included Mayor Sylvester Turner , Houston police chief Aceveda , commissioner Garcia and the council members present .The speakers thanked the Chicano squad for job they did , especially in homicide cases within the Latino community and also improving relationship with the Latino community .
   A special collection of memorabilia and news paper reporting of the activities , history and evolution of the Chicano Squad is being curated to be housed in case[s] in a section of the Houston police department museum dedicated to the squad .
 Council man Robert Gallego has pledged to use $ 15, 000 of his council budget to help put together the collections and display .
  Family members and the Squad , including leaders of HPD and Mayor Sylvester Turner took a joint commemorative photograph.
  It should be noted that former police chief Harry Caldwell formed the Squad in 1979 in response to increased crime activities targeting recent immigrants from Mexico .
