Houston Mayor invites Houstonians to participate in the Apollo moon landing 50th annivery events .

July is an exciting month as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and astronaut Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the Moon. As Houstonians, we should feel proud of our city’s historic role in developing human spaceflight.

Earlier this week, I had the privilege to represent you and Ring the Closing Bell at the New York Stock Exchange in honor of the city of Houston’s significant ties to the mission launch. I led a Greater Houston Partnership delegation as we promoted business opportunities in Houston.

I ask you to join me in honoring our NASA heroes this weekend. A web search will help you find plenty of exciting activities and here are two to consider. Discovery Green will host a free event on Saturday,July 20: A Giant Leap - Houston Celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing

Also on Saturday, Space Center Houston will host a celebration featuring space-themed experiences and a reenactment of the mission countdown.

Houston leads the world in space exploration, medicine, energy and much more. Houston will always be the threshold for ideas and solutions that provide the answers for a better tomorrow.

As we salute the past, let’s look forward to the next giant steps for mankind and more amazing accomplishments from NASA astronauts.

Sincerely,

Mayor Sylvester Turner
